New Paintings | Hawaiian Tropicals | Oceans and Valleys | Upcountry Hawaii |Tapa | Provence

Working with traditional Hawaiian tapa motifs in an untraditional manner, Mary printed and painted patterns inspired by Hawaiian tapa cloth from the Bishop Museum collection. The designs are placed on lampac, a type of tropical split-reed matting, or handmade papers. Depending on the surface and the desired effect, the paint is either oil or acrylic.
